Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portugal superstar, has taken a significant step off the pitch by investing in Spanish football. The 41-year-old forward has purchased a 25% stake in the Segunda Division club UD Almeria, currently owned by Saudi Arabian investors. The acquisition was made through his subsidiary, CR7 Sports, as part of a consortium led by SMC Group.
In an official statement released by UD Almeria, Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his excitement about the investment:
“It has been a long-held ambition of mine to contribute to football, beyond just on the pitch. UD Almeria is a Spanish club with strong foundations and clear growth potential. I look forward to working alongside the leadership team to support the next phase of the club’s growth.”
Almeria’s president, Mohammed Al Khereiji, welcomed Cristiano Ronaldo’s involvement:
Many consider him the greatest to ever play the game. He knows Spanish football very well and recognizes the potential of the team and academy we are building here.
Currently competing in Spain’s Segunda Division, UD Almeria sits third in the league standings, striving for promotion to La Liga. “Ronaldo’s investment will bolster the club’s ambitions both on and off the field.”
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to shine for his Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr. The forward recently became the club’s all-time top scorer, netting his 121st goal in a recent match. This season alone, he has scored 22 goals in 25 games, maintaining his reputation as one of football’s most prolific scorers.
Interestingly, Cristiano Ronaldo has a flawless record against Almeria, scoring seven goals in seven appearances during his time at Real Madrid. Moreover, he faced the club in a friendly with Al Nassr last summer, in which Almeria lost 3-2.
With this new venture, Cristiano Ronaldo not only continues to excel on the pitch but also expands his influence as a football investor. Furthermore, this move signals his long-term commitment to the growth of the sport.
