The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of ₹51 crore for the Indian women’s cricket team, following their historic ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 victory on Sunday. The team will also receive USD 4.48 million (approximately ₹40 crore) as official prize money from the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The announcement came after India’s emphatic 52-run win over South Africa in the final at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, where a crowd of 39,555 witnessed the landmark moment. Batting first, India posted 298 for 7, with Shafali Verma leading the charge with a blistering 87 off 78 balls. In response, Deepti Sharma, who was named Player of the Tournament, produced a match-winning five-wicket haul to bowl South Africa out for 246, despite a valiant century from their captain Laura Wolvaardt.
BCCI president Mithun Manhas hailed the victory as a defining moment in Indian cricket.
“On behalf of the board, I congratulate the Indian women’s cricket team on this historic world championship victory,” said Manhas. “The team’s resilience, talent and togetherness have lifted our nation’s hopes. This triumph vindicates the investment and faith the BCCI placed in building a world-class women’s programme.”
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia also praised the collective effort behind the win.
“This phenomenal achievement is the result of relentless preparation, flawless execution and the unshakable belief of our women cricketers,” Saikia said. “The coaching staff, support personnel and every state association have played a role. Congratulations to each and every member of the team. This team has made the entire cricket fraternity proud.”
The triumph marks India’s first senior women’s world title, after finishing runners-up in 2005 and 2017. It follows their victory in the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023, underscoring the growing depth and strength of women’s cricket in India.
India had earlier beaten Australia in a thrilling semi-final at the same venue, while South Africa advanced to the final by overcoming England in Guwahati.
Following the celebrations, several members of the World Cup-winning squad — including Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, Shafali Verma, Harleen Deol, and Amanjot Kaur — have been named in squads for the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy, starting November 4 in Nagaland. Shafali will lead the North Zone side with Harleen as her deputy, though both are expected to miss the opening game as the victorious team is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on November 5.
India’s triumph has not only ended years of heartbreak but also ushered in a new era for women’s cricket in the country — one marked by belief, excellence, and glory.
